Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood native Saundra Proctor began her coaching journey in 2014 after a successful playing career with Northeastern Junior College and Shaw University women’s basketball programs a few years prior. Starting as a volunteer assistant at Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, PA, Saundra’s first season ended with a 11-11 record.That summer, Coach Proctor was moved from volunteer assistant to a paid position and afforded the opportunity to develop the offseason strength and conditioning program that the Harrisburg Lady Cougars would use for the next few years.

 

Coach Proctor also began coaching under Central Pennsylvania Elite in 2015, run by parents of Maryland and WNBA star Alyssa Thomas. During Coach Proctor’s first season coaching AAU, she had six rising seniors, all 6 of whom would go on to college, 5 of them competing at the college level from Robert Morris University, Messiah College, Elizabethtown College, Shippensburg University, and Penn State University Harrisburg.

 

The next season at Harrisburg High School, the Lady Cougars posted a record of 20-6 and continued with that success over the next 2 years with records of 20-5 in the 2016-17 season while being the runner up in the District 3- 5A championship to a  28-4 record along with a Conference, Regional and District 3-5A Championship the following year.

 

Through continued success with the high school program,  Coach Proctor and the rest of the Harrisburg staff was able to build connections with coaches to assist in recruiting athletes and helping build our young ladies and help them become productive young women and young athletes. While being at Harrisburg High, Coach Proctor’s players were able to secure offers from schools like Providence College, Rider University, Delaware State University, Wagner University, Lackawanna Community College, Mansfield University, Shippensburg University, Millersville University, along with a host of others.

 

Upon returning back to Denver, Coach Proctor became assistant coach for Overland High School and Head Coach for Force Basketball AAU’s inaugural season. As of September of 2021, Coach Proctor began her college coaching journey with Colby Community College in Colby, KS. 

 

Coach Proctor attributes a variety of individuals for her success as a player and also as she has been on her coaching journey as both inspiration and mentors. Shawn Taylor, assistant coach from high school, Pierre Curtis, big brother and Associate Head Coach for Furman University, Edniesha Curry, Assistant Coach Portland Trailblazers and her twin daughters, Kendall and Kennedy.
